Tribeca New Music presents NakedEye - You Are in My House. NakedEye Ensemble is an electro-acoustic octet with classical, rock, and jazz DNA on the forefront of cutting-edge and crossover music that defies conventional labels. Founded and based out of Lancaster, PA, NakedEye has developed a fluid repertoire reflective of its DNA, commissioning projects, institutional and artistic collaborations, and its mission of musical exploration and innovation.
NakedEye’s music follows a simple philosophy: know who you are, seek change. The stylistic mix of the repertoire reflects the musicians’ jazz, improv, rock, classical, minimalist, theatrical backgrounds by combining them all without settling into any one of them. The constant movement of form and ideas gives an edge to NakedEye’s performances.
You Are In My House invites the listener into the artistic world of six uniquely magnetic composers.
The program:
• Anna Thorvaldsdóttir’s Scape (2011), for partially prepared piano, recreates the alluring, angular terrain of her native Iceland.
• Molly Joyce plays with shadows and light in Less is More (2017).
• Missy Mazzoli’s heavy, ethereal Magic with Everyday Objects (2007) is a hopelessly romantic appeal.
• Rusty Banks disrupts silence in Gatekeeping (2020) by opening and closing “sound gates” via manipulated microphones.
• Richard Belcastro’s Signal Paths (2020) evokes the composer’s struggle with effects of nerve damage resulting in misconnections and course corrections.
• Nick Didkovsky gives us a world of quirky, absurdist, and impossibly charming situations in Amalia’s Secret (1994).
